RIMS: Serving in Times of Disaster

“Given the particularly heavy concentration of RIMS agencies in Northern California, it was not surprising that RIMS was in the middle of the 2018 Camp Fire that recently ravaged Butte County and destroyed the town of Paradise.  Paradise PD has RIMS and the lead law enforcement agency, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, also uses RIMS.  In this event as well as in other large emergency events, the SO was able to take advantage of the large number of RIMS-trained dispatchers to augment their communication staff throughout the incident.  This article tells how a newly formed group, the Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (TERT), facilitated dispatcher mutual aid during this emergency, including “40 RIMS-savvy mutual aid dispatchers.”
